[Here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185397) is a perfect example of the OP: The thread asks about the law for traveling in the left lane, and one poster says:

The thread was in GQ, asking specifically for posters to cite the laws where they lived.
_This_ kind of thing is what **Muadâdib** means. The same thought occured to me while reading that post.

Stephen G is right. Over in GQ, they get âlegalâ questions liek that all the time, where somebody asks something like âIs it legal to drive barefootedâ (a good question in CA, where some PD will say it is illegal, then canât come up with a Code cite), but not mention what state they are in, and their âlocationâ is either blank or âsomewhere over the rainbowâ. Then, the next 3\>6 replies are wasted as dudes either ask that question, or post the law in their state, or a similar attempt to be halpfulâŚwhich isnât.
I agree with the OP rant for these kinds of questions. If you want to ask âit is legalâ question- FOR FUCKâS SAKE, LIST YOUR JURISTICTION!

Sorry dude. I honestly pulled that hypothetical out of thin air, being reminded recently by the thread about driving in the left (passing) lane. However, it is an interesting point, as many cops will pull that law out of the same place (thin air- or is it their ass?) However, if they mention it, simply smile & nod. if you get a ticket for it, ask that they list the VC section. đ

No prob. FYI, they messed with me yet again last weekend at Ocean Beach. Of course, it was sour grapes b/c they thought I was changing out of my wet suit naked\*, and I wasnât.

âI said have a pleasant day, sir.â đ
