# When did college freshmen stop wearing beanies?

And what was the last college where freshmen wore beanies? (I’m guessing that the custom is extinct, but you never know…)

Well, I was in Columbia’s Class of 1983, and we were all given beanies as freshmen… but I NEVER wore it, and didn’t see anybody wearing them after freshman orientation was over.

The last class to wear them in Colorado was 1967 at Colorado State College. Did a story on it at the time. Probably a number of other states came after that though.
