When did humans first start needing to trim their fingernails

FWIW, I’ve always thought that John Lennon invented the word “toe jam”.

Hmm, not sure that’s something I would submit to. Seems to leave them a bit ragged and the chance of overcutting seems high!

I’ve used a knife on my own nails when I’ve had to. Tearing them inevitably leads to ripping into the quick.

Speculation: your normal skin has an epidermal layer that is resistant to penetration and not sensitive. The quick under the nail does not have that epidermal layer because it’s covered by the nail. Thus, you are hitting the dermis directly.

I’m trying to envision what you mean. All I can think is your nails curving down over the front of your toes like big feelers off the front of your toes.

Are you a dog? Just asking. I mean, no one can tell, on the internet.

Derek, is that you?

Speaking for myself, I have mallet or hammer toes, so if I let my toe nails grow long, they could easily hit the floor and make noise. I don’t let that happen, but I can see where it could.

Are you satire challenged?

Guess you don’t know me very well.

Interesting reply considering we don’t know each other.

must we do this?

Your call.
