I’m sure there are people who oppose Obama for his policies or would have opposed any other Democrat’s policies just as vehemently. But if you think race has nothing to do with a lot of the vitriol, you’re a moron. Why else would what was essentially the Republican alternative to Hillarycare in 1993 become the epitome of evil socialism and the one thing that Republicans would shut down the government over? If Biden was president and the HCA became law, the right wing would have just shut the fuck up and learned to live with it. With Obama, it’s a fig leaf to cover up the darker side of human nature. It’s tribalism: “they” want to get “our” money. NO, it wasn’t this bad with Bush. I hate that motherfucker with the fire of a thousand suns, but I sure as hell wouldn’t have tried to make an enactment of his death into a comedy show. The Dixie Chicks were crucified for daring to say they were ashamed to be from Bush’s state, yet batshit crazy Ted Nugent spews the most hateful lies about Obama and the right just shrugs it off with “well, the Democrats do it too.” Like fucking hell we do. ---
