When did wireless speakers completely take over the market?

shouldn’t speakers be driven by a normal line output and not a headphone output? Don’t they have different impendences and all that?

In my experience, most modern sound devices can figure out the difference. They must be sending a test signal down the line and measuring the voltage/current response. My computer has a popup that tells me if I’ve plugged in a speaker, headphone, or microphone in any of the ports.

I was looking for some simple cheap desktop speakers, you know the kind: AC powered, jack goes into the back of your computer. But apparently those are now as obsolete as non-LED flashlights, incandescent light bulbs or CRT monitors. Apparently now all speakers absolutely must be completely portable, charging from a USB port and connecting via Bluetooth. I would really prefer the old kind but I can’t find any.

One would think, if one is looking for computer speakers, that one might consider checking with computer manufacturers.
