When did you last pay with cash since this began?

I’ve only paid with cards for months now. The only thing I used to pay in cash for before this was carry-out and drive thru food because for a long time they were some of the last holdout so I got used to still using cash. It’s gotten to the point that when I am paying inside, I assume they’ll take cards but I still pay cash at the window because it’s harder to see if they have the card logos and I’m paranoid about my card dropping. But that’s moot as long as we’re on lockdown because while I might take out eventually I’m certainly going to the drive thru while this lasts.

I just walked past the local drugstore; they had a sign up that they were not accepting cash.

I hadn’t paid for anything for months until a few days ago. We ordered take-out from a local Chinese restaurant that was accepting cash only. Not sure if it’s always like that there or it was a temporary issue.

I have been self-isolating since I came down with a chest cold in early March. So, sometime before that.

Friday Night Fish Fry from the local pub.

I always tip with cash, and I’m so used to leaving a pile of bills on the bar at our local tavern, that even when they’re doing only take out, I’m still leaving cash on the bar. And tipping like 100%.

Still less than I’d be normally spending there, watching {sniff} NBA and MLB with {sob} a bar full of fans…

Oh, when I use cash I’ve been putting any change in my back pocket and not touching it for a few days.

I haven’t used cash once since the beginning of March. Most of my payments have been online. The only time I’ve physically swiped my card was at the gas pump.

Okay, paid exact cash for a couple of starts at a nursery today.

I have no idea what that means. Someone helped someone express breast milk twice?

I took it to mean she bought some black-market babies. Could be wrong though.

I mostly use CCs, but lately I’ve been wanting to tip the delivery people, but have run out of small bills and twonies to do it with. I am hesitant to go into the bank and the machines give out 20s. I pay my footcare specialist cash and my next appointment is in 9 days but I think I will cancel, although I have plenty of cash to pay him. I pay our cleaning people cash, but we haven’t let them come for seven weeks so no need to pay them (although I have offered to give them money, but they have refused.

I have a friend who buys the food he eats every day. He spends two hours going around to local stores and buying what he needs. He usually pays cash. He was accustomed to going around to his local bank to get money whenever he needs it, but now that local branch is closed and, while he has a bank card, he has nevr used an ATM and has never heard of a PIN. If he went to a main branch which is open they won’t know and will not give him money unless he inserts his card in their machine and taps in the PIN. He did finally find a neighbor who cashed his cheque. He is 91, BTW.

Seven hours ago. I stopped at the deli for a sandwich.

Lol. I read that to mean Susan bought some baby plants at the (horticultural) nursery.

You really can’t see three sixes? People don’t want to see.

What would your solution be when it comes to long strings of numbers-elimination of the number six?

True, but I like the other interpretations much more.

I have no specific recollection, although I know that I used cash to eat at the tianguis on my last day of my business trip to Mexico City back in February. I may have unloaded some cash on dulces regionales in the airport, just to get rid it of.

Your obsession with the number 666 has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Please take this conversation elsewhere.

Great Debates is the place for witnessing.

We get takeout food about once a week - and we make a point of paying cash.

  1. This means there’s no handing-over of the credit card.
  2. We can just cobble together enough cash to cover the bill and a generous tip, put it on the counter, and not have to worry about fumbling with change and food bags at the same time.

The chip on my credit card recently failed at Rite Aid and a beer store; my credit card is physically damaged and I need to order a new one. I had to pay in dirty dirty cash both times. The reason for the damage is because when this first started like a dumbass I washed it with soap and water after shopping.
