I did last week. My nephew came to visit me and he’s so big. I can remember changing his diapers and now he’s taller then me? It really just hit home today. I got the new issue of **Spin** magazine with the cover story about the **TENTH** anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s **Nevermind** album. I was immediately struck with nostalgia of the days when they used to play the Metro before they hit the big time. I feel so old. ---

Bands make me feel old, too. Like when I wonder whether Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth can patch things up and kick off a reunion tour before one or both of them dies of old age. ---

every single day since my car accident, I wake up stiff and sore and generally irritable. of course its a different kinda old but thats my story ---

Round about the fourth or fifth rap song I heard, I was SHOCKED to catch myself actually thinking, “How can they listen to this?”. And that was it, suddenly I was as old as dirt… There’s no going back once these words have passed through your mind, I’m convinced. ---

I joked around about turning 30 for some time before it happened, but let me tell you, getting dumped by the guy you hoped was gonna be It for Life _two weeks_ before turning 30 is not conducive to feeling youthful. Aside from that, I’d say anytime MTV does one of their birthday retrospectives, I feel old. More when they show clips of the V.J.s and the old Club MTV stuff than the videos themselves-- man, the clothes, the hair, did I WANT to look like that?! ---

When I stopped being able to keep track of the bands playing on the radio. That was one thing. Here’s Another: Last summer I was at a family reunion and one of my cousins’ kids, who is 16 (which ought to tip me off that I’m old to begin with) said he really liked techno music. I started to tell him about the huge techno music fest they had in Detroit for the first time that year, how well-attended it was, etc. He looked at me and said “I think you mean a ‘rave’ That’s what those are called, and they have them all over.” Well, no, I know what a goddamn rave is, and that’s not what I was talking about. There really _was_ a huge convention-type thing in Hart Plaza with multiple stages and DJs from all over the world. But his patient but scornful tone with me told me with excrutiation clarity that he thought I was old. And not just old, but uncool. Too uncool to know what I was talking about when it came to “his” music. Then I realized how old I was to people his age. ---

I realized I was getting older when I saw smile wrinkles when I wasn’t smiling. Ugh. I also secretly don’t trust people born in the 80’s. I mean, THE 80’S? That was just, like, a couple of years ago, right? ---

The other day i was listening to the radio in my car and Dr. Dre and Snoop came on. I was doing the car bounce, feeling good, until the DJ came on after the song and announced “That was a little old school with Nothing but a G thang by Dr. Dre and Snoop doggy dog” Old school??? i felt pretty old then ☹ ---
