When do you lock your door?

The rule that I’ve been teaching my son is whenever we enter the apartment, the last person through the door should lock it. I’m not paranoid, I swear.

This is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. I never would have believed there were really this many people who leave their doors unlocked like it ain’t no thang. In fact I’ve always had a hard time believing it when reading a book and the main character goes to knock on someone’s door; after receiving no answer he/she would find that the door was just magically left unlocked. Oh how convenient!

I voted whenever I’m not going through it, though that isn’t exactly correct. We have a carpenter doing stuff in the house and leave the door unlocked during the day when he’s walking out to his saws and things. Similarly if I’m sitting on the porch reading or in the front yard raking leaves, the door is likely unlocked.
