Yes, the enormous majority of abortions are early in the pregnancy:

> **[Abortion Statistics Per Year in US 2026 | Facts - The World Data](https://theworlddata.com/abortion-statistics-per-year-in-us/)**
>
> Explore the latest 2025 abortion statistics in the U.S. Discover key facts on annual abortion rates, demographic trends, state-level data, and changes in reproductive health policies.

40.2% are before 6 weeks.
(And that’s really before 4 weeks, since we count pregnancy from the date of the last period, not from implantation, because many women know the date of their last period. Yes, that means every fertile person is in some sense considered to be pregnant by the US medical establishment for 2 weeks every month.)
38.4% are 7-9 weeks
14.2% are 10-13 weeks

So 92.8% are performed before 13 weeks. And another 6.1% are 14-20 weeks.

I hope you can see the problem with who gets to decide what a “good” reason is.

Right. There is only one person who should get to make that decision, and that person should be given full capacity to decide when to make it.

You realize that most police activity uses the threat of lethal force, not actually killing people, right? That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t escalate to killing if overwhelming force and the threat of killing didn’t work. My facts are completely accurate.

Yes, the police show up with guns and force the tenant to leave. Few people are so stupid as to threaten to harm the police rather than comply.

Every fetus harms its mother.

The only reason we allow men to own property and control who is allowed in it, and don’t allow women to own their own bodies, is because women are not granted the same autonomy as men by society.

Ok, so in your analogy, wouldn’t that mean we evict the fetus without killing them if possible? As long as the fetus doesn’t resist arrest, you can just pull it out.

I get what you’re saying when it comes to the sum total of the average officer’s activities: by far, most of it is not directly coercive and doesn’t require any implied threat.

But I think it’s fair to say that whenever a police officer is commanding any kind of direct physical compliance with an order that the commanded person doesn’t want to obey, the implied or overt threat of force is very much part of that equation.

I believe a fetus becomes a person when it is born. Until it is born, it is the potential for personhood not yet fulfilled.
I strongly oppose referring to the death of a pregnant woman as the death of two people…because a fetus has not yet become a person.

sure, but no one is arguing that police can’t remove, even forcibly remove, a non-compliant trespasser. My point was that they can’t use _lethal_ force against a passive, non-threatening trespasser, which makes puzzlegal’s tortured attempts to analogize the situation invalid. I tried to offer the fig branch in abortion cases where the health of the mother is at risk, as that may perhaps be compared to a threatening trespasser, but she declined that comparison.

Yes, and that is the general choice when it’s old enough to be supported with current technology.

Except i don’t think it’s really fully a human being, yet. Just like i don’t think a home is as intimate a possession as your own body.

But (and I’m in the midst of reading the vorkosigan saga) if we had effective uterine replicators, yes, I’d favor that over killing the fetus, certainly after it had developed a brain.

Every pregnancy is a threatening trespasser.

no they’re not. Many (most?) are welcome visitors to the parents

Sure. But even a welcome pregnancy is physically threatening to the mother. I guess “trespasser” isn’t always true. But “threatening” is.

not life threatening, which is the standard for the use of lethal force against a trespasser.

As pointed out above, the police can forcibly evict any trespasser. It doesn’t matter if the trespasser doesn’t have anyplace else to live. Homeless people are routinely evicted from private property.

</div>

Also, it drives me nuts that people routinely downplay the enormous physiological cost and risk of a pregnancy. Being pregnant ages people. It commonly triggers obesity and diabetes. It damages the bones. Unexpected life threatening complications, like preeclampsia, are fairly common.

An unwanted pregnancy is an abomination that should be ended as quickly as possible.

I think the terminology here is wrong.

A fetus is not a trespasser. It is a parasite. Quite literally.

Do you have a problem removing parasites even if it kills the parasite?

All humans are parasites then.
It makes me wonder when women say, Its my body.
She must be deformed then, with 2 hearts four legs etc.
The fetus is not her body. If its not viable then people on life support aren’t either and can be gotten rid of, like parasites..aren’t parasites bad things?
Just my views.
