I’m desperately in need of a new iMac but I’m not sure when to get one. I know that typically Apple introduces new and/or upgraded products a couple times each year, but I’m not sure when. I don’t want to buy something then two weeks later find out that all new iMacs from that day forward will include Flux Capacitor 2.0 or something. I know Apple doesn’t comment on new product releases and I’m not asking anyone to speculate on their best guesses for the next gee whiz bang product, I’m just wondering what the events are at which Apple typically announces their new products, and when they occur during the year. I know there’s one in the fall but I thought there was usually something in the spring, like mid-April, as well. Does anyone know? ---

Typically at MacWorld San Fransisco (January) and at World Wide Developers Conference (usually June). If Leopard was going to be released at WWDC, I’d expect some hardware there. But with the delay I’m not so sure. Apple also randomly announces new hardware. Brian ---

Check out the [Macrumors.com Buyer’s Guide](http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/). Based on past update histories, it includes predictions on future updates and advice on when to buy. E.g., for the iMac, it says, “Don’t Buy - Updates Soon.” (Macrumors is also an excellent site for general news and reasonably reliable Apple rumors.) ---

Also, usually on Tuesdays, in the cases where hardware is ‘randomly upgraded’ (i.e. no particular event surrounding it). So if you need to buy a new computer, wait until midweek. ---

The one thing I can tell you is that it’s going to be the fall before OS 10.5 comes out, which is probably the next big upgrade. So I’m dragging this old thing with me until then.
