When gas stations go out of business, where do the pumps go?

Fortunately, some pumps don’t end end up on the street. Here’s a heartwarming story of a pump that managed to rise above that when it found a second career as a Tesla charger.

I would suspect that if a gas station goes out of business it’s because it’s not a commercially viable location anymore. So no point in keeping the pumps there because a buyer almost certainly isn’t going to start another gas station.
