In order: A friend of mine, because he is never called Dave except in a piss-taking sense, even though his real name is David. He likes the piss-taking and is one of the best people I know. Big Gay Dave, a former colleague who was not actually gay but one of the campest men I’ve ever met. Various other Daves I’ve known. There are a lot of them. Dave Gorman. The TV channel Dave. Dave Lee Travis. ---
