No, no no. He was a **pius** man–a man like Pope **Pius** X.

You’ll accept that, right?
No, that would be Pope John Paul 3.14159 . . . .

Not to pick on you and your informative post, Polycarp, but this is one of my pet peeves. A man is _né_ (original name), a woman is _née_ (maiden name). If you are engaged to a man, he is your _fiancé_. If you are engaged to a woman, she is your _fiancée_.
Ah, but then it’s going to be confusing as hell if, after Pope John Paul II is made a saint, a bunch of miracles get attributed to Pope John Paul I and he gets named a Saint as well. Then Pope John Paul I would be Saint John Paul II and Pope John Paul II would be Saint John Paul I.
You think that’s bad? What if you have a vision of two holy men, and one of them says “I’m St. John, and he’s St. James”. How would you pick them out of [this list](http://www.catholic.org/saints/stindex.php?lst=J)? ([catholic.org](http://catholic.org))

What makes it even worse is that Jan = Jean = John, and Jacob = Jakob = Jacques = James (= Diego!)

He already has a Cause at the Vatican. (“Cause” is the technical term for “officially recognized advocacy group for beatification and/or canonization.”)

Any truth to the rumor that Father Guido Sarducci has been appointed Devil’s Advocate?

Pope John Paul II himself got rid of the Devil’s advocate position in 1983, so unless Pope Benedict XVI is planning to restore the position I’d say no. 🙂

Well Benedict _is_ a traditionalist.
Perhaps this warrants a thread of its own, but what would be a scientific explanation for the case of Sister Marie-Simon-Pierre, cured of Parkinson’s after praying to JP2?
I was thinking about this as well- considering she sought treatment prior to the miracle of her healing, I would think it would be simple to do some tests.

Any docs want to weigh in, here or elsewhere?

Spontaneous remission does happen. That would be perceived as a miracle. The remainder of my post I shall leave as an exercise for the reader.
