When Republicans finally accept that climate change is real, how will they blame Democrats for it?

Like climate change?

I am right on board with the climate change issue and for the most part I don’t usually have a problem with what the scientists have to say because they are the first to call attention to their own limitations. What I have a problem with is the drastic measures being called for and the way it is being sold to the public by non scientists. People are walking around in fear for their lives. Fossil fuels are being attacked as if they are the enemy. Lack of alternatives is the enemy right now. We need conservative estimates on how much time we have, and we need to know what acceptable levels of CO2 are. I acknowledge it is a serious issue but not as dire or .as immediately threatening as we are being led to believe. Whenever someone feels like they shouldn’t ask questions that is a good indicator something is wrong.

When someone refuses to accept answers and just keeps asking questions over and over again until someone tells them what they want to hear is a better indication that something is wrong. We have no doubt you are looking for conservative estimates.

No, we need accurate estimates, which have been provided by climate scientists for decades.

Which puts in direct contrast with what climate scientists are saying. The situation is quite bad. Actually it was quite bad years ago. It is quite dire now as we’re breaking through multiple points of no return. And because there are still people like you and @Sam_Stone around, we won’t end up acting because “It isn’t that bad” or “It is really bad, but come on, it is too expensive to act now. We should wait a bit longer and make sure”.

You’re not asking questions though are you? You’re making statements based on your expertise as a consumer and voter. By all means ask questions, but when you get the answer and you don’t like it, then don’t reject it because it is in opposition to what you really wish it were.

These are your quotes. You want better information. Tell me what it is you want. You want to ask questions then ask. I am more than happy to do a literature search and provide you with links to relevant papers. However, my expectation if I do this, is that you will accept what the legitimate experts are saying. And if you come back and say “I don’t agree with this paper”, then I will know with certainty that the first quote is a lie. You’re not interested in discussing the science that you are only interested in propagating the viewpoint of a conservative consumer and voter. Prove me wrong.

Nothing wrong with Just Asking Questions! But, please JAQ off on your own time and in private.

Honestly, that kind of sounds as though what you really mean is that you like the restrained tone of scientific papers because it allows you to maintain the comforting illusion that there isn’t that much to worry about and all the dire predictions are likely to be mistaken.

What on earth do you mean by this? Are you alleging that climate scientists or environmental activists are literally threatening to kill people who disregard their warnings? If so, cite please???

Or are you just complaining because climate scientists and activists are rightly warning people that climate-change-related crisis events will cause a lot of deaths, and you wish they wouldn’t say that because you find it scary? If so, sorry, but this is the reality. Climate-change-related crises WILL cause a lot of deaths, and it would be irresponsible for scientists and activists to ignore that fact for fear of scaring people.

The use of fossil fuels is being attacked because it is the root cause of the problem. You can skip the silly anthropomorphization of fossil fuels into some kind of evil-intentioned “enemy”, which AFAICT nobody but you is actually engaging in. But it’s a scientific fact that the massive increase in atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases due primarily to human fossil-fuel use is the main driver of climate change. Nobody’s required to pretend that’s not true in order to spare your tender sensibilities (or anyone else’s).

If by “alternatives” you mean “replacement fuels or mitigation strategies that will allow people in the developed world to continue their current lifestyles with no significant impacts in cost or convenience while solving the climate-change problem”, yeah, such alternatives do not currently exist and are unlikely to exist for a long time, if ever.

So ISTM that there’s not much point bitching about their unavailability at the moment. We need to devote attention and effort to the carbon reduction and mitigation strategies that are currently available, rather than just whining about how “drastic” some of them seem.

By “conservative estimates”, do you mean “estimates that leave a comfortable margin of error and have a low risk of under-predicting the severity of the problem”, or “estimates that tell us the best-case scenarios that definitely won’t over-predict the severity of the problem”?

Because both of those are readily available from a whole lot of reliable sources, beginning with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. But none of the answers are particularly simple or comforting.

Dude, nobody at all is saying that people can’t ask questions to become better informed about the problems of climate change and the best ways to address them.

But all your shuffling and complaining and deflecting is giving the strong impression that the only question you’re actually interested in asking is “Can’t somebody please give me some scientifically valid reassurance that this isn’t really a very serious crisis so I can return to mostly ignoring it?” And that you’re very unwilling to accept the only honest answer.

“When Republican finally accept…” Whatever makes us imagine that Republicans are ever going to accept shit?

Article in today’s Guardian about RW plans to dismantle everything possible that might mitigate climate change.

Dan

Fuck you. I wrote that for you.

ETA: Your mother is a dirty whore.

Just really filthy shit.

Just a happy note, SS has been away since 7/20/20223.

May be a flounce, may be just trying to make us miss them, but in the meantime I’m enjoying the sound of silence.

He ran away because people were mean to him when they told him to read his own fucking cites, which did not say what he thought they said.
