I mean do you come right out with the 'Hi Opal!'s …? Do you make hints about Bacon-Salt? There’s a Very good chance I was gaming with at least one poster here today. And I’m so mad at myself for chickening out… ---

I know I’ve trotted this out before. But at a gaming con about 10 years or so ago I was sitting down to play a game and the guy across from me was then mid John Corrado. His name badge gave his name and it matched his SDMB handle. I just started with, “John Corrado…do the words ‘Straight Dope Message Board’ mean anything to you…” ---

I think I even got a hint. While their voices / dialects were spread from Maine to CA, they said they were from Illinois, near Chicago. But I used the ‘Canada’ test & they failed. “So, any of you from Canada?” “Nope. We actually hate Canada.” “We blame it for everything.” “Its the Anne Murray thing.” “But wouldn’t Alanis Morrisette & April Levine offset that? John Candy & Dan Akroyd? Shatner & Nimoy? Jerry O’Connell & Brendan Fraser? Paul Shaffer & Lorne Greene? Cobie Smulders & …Alex Trebek?” See, this is where I had my doubts. I mean, C’mon, no self-respecting Doper could Really hate Canada. (Think of all that Tim Horton goodness… I mean, they have their own Bacon!!!) ---
