Oh, Lord, I know him alright. Mostly due to CNN having inexplicably decided for a while that he would be a terrific replacement for Larry King. Fortunately it didn’t take long before they decided to shoot him back over to the other side of the Atlantic from whence he came, and where I hope he will remain.

It is possible to have nothing in common with other people (other than our shared humanity) but yet still find some aspects of their story interesting. YM, obviously, MV.

I dunno if he flounced or was sacked (as the Brits say) but geez, if it was a sacking, couldn’t happen to a bigger asshole:

Hopefully the current quarantine rules will keep him over there, at least for a bit longer.

I don’t think the 2 are mutually exclusive; the Obamas have a deal with Netflix, but I don’t think anyone would object to them having _some_ degree of privacy.

Meghan used an analogy (in an unaired segment, released today) that I thought was pretty apt. Just because you have a framed photo of your kids on your desk doesn’t give your co-workers the right to rifle through your camera photo roll.

Yeah I’d say a preemptive flounce prior to an inevitable sacking.
Unfortunately now matter how bad some elements of the UK press and punchable cluckfuckles like Piers are , there is a big market for the shit they sell.

It’s actually a well known phenomena for pregnancy and post-partum to cause emotional issues in women, even those NOT hounded by the press. My mother was hospitalized due to post-partum depression, which can not be cured by “toughening up”. But hey, keep disparaging women suffering from a problem that the medical profession recognizes as legitimate.

And one, lone woman “outwitting” an entire profession devoted to prying, scandal, and embarrassment? Seriously? How dare she be less than utterly extraordinary and perfect! [/sarcasm]

> But, unlike these two, I’ve never had the ability to live a life of luxury wherever the fuck in the world I felt like without the least concern about ever working for a living

The only reason Harry has any money at this point is because 1) Diana left her boys some actual money and 2) Meaghan brought money into the marriage. The core royals actually do not have private fortunes, they’re not allowed to amass them, and unless they inherit something from outside the royals they are completely and utterly dependent on their allowance from the crown.

Oh, wait, you say Elizabeth II owns all those castles and carriages and pays for servants! No, actually she doesn’t - the Crown owns all that. The moment she abdicates she loses it all and is entirely at the mercy of whomever takes the throne next. Which might be one reason core royals “abandon” the family firm so rarely.

Actually, the Queen DOES own (some of) the castles: Balmoral, for example, is part of her private assets and is not owned by the Crown. Sandringham House and its 20,000 acres of farmland, gardens, and woods are likewise private property, while Buckingham and Windsor belong to the Crown. The late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother left an estate valued at between 50 and 70 million pounds at her death in 2002, and even before that had placed about 14 million pounds into a trust fund for her grandchildren, so I’m not sure where you got the idea that the royals are not allowed to have private fortunes. (Harry is thought to have inherited the bulk of the trust, as William will have the Duchy of Lancaster and the Crown properties one day.)

The Queen is the current beneficiary of the Duchy of Lancaster; she is entitled to the annual revenues (currently in the range of 20 million pounds or $27.5 million USD annually) but not the capital. She uses the money to pay the expenses of various family members such as the Princess Royal, but any surplus goes into her private purse, and Forbes magazine has estimated her private wealth (separate from the Crown Estate and the Duchy) to be in the range of $400-500 million.

I did NOT say they could not have them - I said they could not acquire them outside of inheritance. They can’t start up a private company like Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates and become billionaires.

I was not aware of the Queen Mother leaving an estate and the other assets you mentioned, so I have updated my own information. Thanks.

Edward would have made a HORRID king, and it’s a damned good thing that he abdicated.
I think the family will survive, though. They’ve survived far, far worse than this. Everyone thinking “OMG, MEGHAN IS GOING TO BRING DOWN THE ROYALS!” needs to doing some research. Liz and co have NOTHING on her ancestors.

IIRC though, wasn’t it Harry and Meghan who requested that Archie not be made a prince? I could’ve sworn that was the case. Although I do believe they’ve stated that it wasn’t his grandparents that made the comments about Archie’s skin.

That was one of the things they sought to dispel but it was a bit murky. As I understand it, he wouldn’t have been a prince until Charles is the King, but they were told (or claimed they were told) he wouldn’t be named a prince even then, and thus not get any security, which was their prime concern it seemed.

That’s what Oprah said afterward. Otherwise I think many people would have thought it was Philip.

’
Sure they can. None of them have displayed anything like the sort of business acumen to actually do so, but there’s no prohibition against it. Prince Edward, for example, started a television production company (Ardent Productions); it produced a string of documentaries and not-very-good TV movies in the 1990s and early 2000s, and I’m not sure it ever did turn a profit, but he tried. (He does have producer credits on IMDB, but these days is a fulltime working royal.) Similarly, Prince Richard qualified as an architect and was a partner in a London architecture firm briefly, before the unexpected death of his older brother in 1972 made him heir to the Dukedom of Gloucester and led to more royal duties.

The time commitments that go with being a senior member of The Firm, coupled with the need to avoid even the appearance of conflicts of interest, preclude most active business involvement by the Queen and other senior royals, but they do still have various business ventures, I’m sure all under the direction of professional managers. Sandringham is a working farm, e.g., and the Queen regularly made the list of the British landowners receiving the largest amount of EU agricultural subsidies.

Morgan’s entire beef with Markle appears to be that she was distracted by her relationship with the Prince and so didn’t call him. That is not a normal reaction for a man with regards to a friend not talking to him for awhile. I’ve had friends I didn’t talk to for years and no one was upset about it. So I have to conclude he wanted to have sex with her, she wasn’t receptive, and he’s being a situational incel about it.

The interview was a ratings bonanza. So much so they are scheduling Oprah interviews with the hot gossip celebrity of the week.

I was pretty sure QE2 was pretty much at the top of the list of wealthiest British women, largest British landowner, etc. But I do not pay too much attn, so I am likely mistaken.

If she is personally wealthy, it would be interesting to learn who she leaves it to. I could imagine there being incentive to leave the bulk of it to the crown heir.

On edit - no idea if [this](https://www.standard.co.uk/insider/royals/queen-elizabeth-net-worth-royal-family-wealth-money-a4260986.html) is accurate, but it estimates her personal wealth over L300mil. Plus L97mil annual salary. And effective ownership (as monarch) of a bunch of stuff.
