In old movies, you always saw a millionair sitting by a ticker machine, watching stock prices on the tape.
These machines were invented by Edison, and consumed vast amounts of paper tape-remember those “ticker tape” parades?
Anyway, I like the look of them-they probably are valuable antiques today.
When did they go out of use?

According to the [Stock Ticker Company](http://www.stocktickercompany.com/stc/history/history5.php), the last mechanical ticker was introduced in 1960. No date on when it was fully replaced, but certainly by the 1970s.

It looks like the tickers were always a bit behind the market, while the electronic versions could keep up faster.
