Until recently, I referred to my wife as “my wife” although we weren’t considered married by our state.

For me, the worst I have is I spit on a car with an offensive bumper sticker.
We have started referring to each other as husband/wife and even have a whole backstory. We plan on being together for the remainder, but don’t see a huge up side (other than the party) to marriage. We each have Advanced Directives on file naming each other as decision maker. And boy/girlfriend, significant other, etc are all awkward. AFAICT, there is nothing illegal about playing house and claiming to be wed.
