# When was the last time you threw up?

I haven’t thrown up since 1978. Is this unusual, or do some people never barf as adults? I’ve had to fight it off many times, and I’ve had those “vurps” where a little something comes up without any nausea associated with it, but haven’t actually puked in 34 years. I am one of those people who would do almost anything to avoid throwing up, so I have fought it pretty hard sometimes. But I’m less puke-phobic than I was a few years ago, before my kids were born. Now that I have to clean up kid puke about five times a year, the whole thing is less frightening to me than it used to be.
When was the last time you blew your groceries?

The weekend before Christmas.
I went to a party held by my former co-worker where he served his home made eggnog. My vomiting was foreshadowed by a woman asking if the eggnog was made with raw eggs (I think all eggnog is though, right? I have no idea- this was my first time having it). My co-worker said yes, but added, “But no one’s ever gotten sick!” The smart lady who asked the question opted out. I however drank a ton of it mixed with a ton of vodka. Perhaps it was the alcohol that made me sick, not the 'nog, but regardless, I spent about an hour in the bathroom (missing the secret santa gift exchange) before running out of the house and barely making it home.
I took the subway which is not fun for the nauseous. I managed to hold it in during the duration of my train ride, but a random girl on the train with me (not anyone from the party) threw up all over the floor (maybe she was coming from an eggnog party too?). She apologized profusely to the disgusted passengers and a train conductor came out with copies of _The Daily News_\*\* or whatever to spread over the vomit. She apologized to him too, but he said not to worry about it because that happens “all the time!”

I have vomited with no obvious reason a couple of times in the past several years.
Before that, it was years and years between vomiting. Never really felt phobic about it because when the vomit comes out, the nausea stops. It’s a huge relief.

I beat your record by four years. I last lost lunch in '74, in a cheap motel near Bakersfield (if memory serves.)
Like you, I’ve had some close calls…
(I’m extremely emetophobic.)
I asked my doctor once, how often it was normal for people to upchuck. She said, politely, that it was never normal to vomit. So I had to re-phrase the question: on average, how often do people puke. She said about once a year.

A few days ago…effin migraines. Before that it’s probably been a at least a year since the last unintentional\* time I’ve puked and that was probably from a migraine as well. I can’t think of the last time I’ve thrown up due to any kind of stomach issues. As an adult I really haven’t been sick and when I’ve just had an upset stomach I’ve learned to control it (or not move around a lot) so I don’t puke.
\*From time to time I get food or pills caught in my throat and that’s the only way I know of to get them to move one way or the other. Gross, but it works.

About four or five years ago - I was using weed-killer on the lawn, and I didn’t know that apparently I’m sensitive to the toxins in that. I had lunch, then puked it right back up again. Before that, and without any alcohol involved, I’d say 20 or 30 years - I don’t recall puking as an adult from anything except over-indulging in booze.
I’m not emetophobic or anything, and I frequently have nausea; I just don’t barf.

I never thought that I would be sharing this experience, but last year I was invited to an ayahuasca ceremony with friends, and a guy from Peru was singing and handing out a vile tasting tea, which I gulped down out of politeness. My stomach started to feel funny after the first cup, so when he offered me a second cup, I ran outside and projectile vomited like in the exorcist.

2004 in the hospital. Once after waking up and one random time during my stay.
Before that, on a regular basis when finishing a race. Luckily, I had plenty of company. 😉

I don’t throw up often, probably less than once every five years. The most recent time was this summer when I threw up a dose of doxycycline. That stuff is not easy on your stomach!

Four years ago when I contracted stomach flu. It’s funny, the time before that was twenty five years previous. Vomiting twice in 30 years is a pretty good record.

I envy those who say they haven’t vomited in years. Until I had my gallbladder removed in October 2011, I used to vomit 2 - 3 times a month. Since I’ve had it removed, I’ve only thrown up once, and that was due to a particularly hellish migraine. Apparently my gallbladder was affecting me more than I thought, and I’m definitely NOT regretting it being removed despite the complications of its removal.

That pretty much describes me. Gastroenteritis maybe 3 years ago. Before that in the winter of 1975-76. I was spending the year in Zurich and was invited to dinner by a friend. I had a toothache. In the middle of dinner the toothache suddenly disappeared and a minute later I was praying at the big white altar. Next day I had a root canal. Before that, I cannot recall.

Late 1990s, food poisoning. That was some pretty spectacular projectile vomiting, too.
About 5 years ago a tooth got infected and my dentist prescribed Erythromycin. It made me very nauseated and I may have thrown up then, can’t exactly recall. I called him to [del] bitch [/del] complain about it and he laughingly told me that was so normal he called it “Barfomyacin.”

Not sure, probably a couple of months ago. I don’t eat breakfast but I do drink a glass of water in the mornings before I leave the house and about once a month I will vomit the whole thing back up about 15 seconds after finishing it. No idea why it happens, especially since if I wait another few minutes and try some more water it will stay down. Gives me sore abs all day, though.
The last time I threw up actual food was the day after I got my wisdom teeth out this past July. I wasn’t on the painkillers and didn’t think I was feeling all that bad but I guess it had hit me harder than I thought because about ten minutes after we finished eating I went and threw up my whole dinner. It made a big mess.

In November 2010. I was on a 6-month course of bad drugs, chemotherapy-bad, which made me so nauseated all of the time it was difficult to eat much. And at times easy to lose it. In this case, it was right after I’d suddenly become unconscious, had a seizure, and turned blue. Then came to and immediately hurled. It was scary because I could have died like that. So thank goodness, I guess, for the barf of life.

Last year, after surgery. twice. Both times they were taking my blood pressure. I have no idea why.

Just a few days ago.
Gross description follows, read at your own risk.
I have a really lousy situation where I have bad allergies. Add onto that a sinus infection. And a physical situation where post-nasal drip goes right down the back of my throat.
So I wake up in bed two days ago. Feel ok, but congested. I get out of bed, and gravity makes all that mucus filth start dripping down the back of my throat.
This triggers coughing. Strong coughing. Violent coughing. Like, go-dizzy coughing.
And as it turns out, this also triggers my gag reflex. So after about 3 minutes of horrible coughing, I vomit a bit. This isn’t a full, stomach-emptying vomit, but I do hork up a bit of bile and the water I drank when I woke up.
I just _love_ my sinuses. :mad:
