Oh, yes. I expect to throw up during my c-section in a week or so. Did both of the last times. Anything dairy or meat-based is the worst to throw up. Clear fluids are the best. A lot of my first and second trimester eating involves thinking about how it’ll be on the way back up. Ick. ---

A week or so before Thanksgiving. I was not sick at all; I was reading and drinking water with a little OJ in it (I hate plain water). Stomach queasy, followed by nausea. I had not thrown up for at least a decade, if not two–I hate it and will fight it as long as necessary. This was BAD. During the process, I wondered if barfing was always so projectile and I forgot, or if this was unusually powerful. The velocity was almost interesting enough to overshadow the grossness. Problem is…had I developed an aversion to orange juice overnight? I’ve been hesitant to have more in case it brings back more barfing. I tried one swallow recently and felt a little queasy, but that could be psychological. So now I am basically afraid of orange juice. My husband throws up as often as your average cat. He has no coping mechanisms and so whenever anything new and different and even mildly upsetting happens, he’s in the bathroom barfing about it. ---

I think I do have a pretty high heaving threshold, even though I got upset stomachs all the damn time for many years. I’ve had general anesthesia as well as sedation and it’s never even made me queasy. Also, I attended a large state university in the 1980s, so I consumed unhealthy amounts of alcohol once or twice a week for years. Gave me the spins a few times, but I never hurled. ---

Damn, I thought my not-vomiting record was pretty impressive - I made it about seventeen years, from the age of eight (roughly - not even sure what that was about) to the age of twenty-five, where in late 2010 I had a kidney stone to deal with. I’m pretty resistant to vomiting, I guess, but kidney stones still do the trick. ---

About four years ago I got food poisoning from some bad chicken salad. I went to a bridal shower with a bunch of my family and we all got sick. Not the recommended way to lose 10 pounds. ---

Maybe about eight or nine years ago. I just had dinner with a bunch of SF fans and Robert Sawyer and I got violently ill. I think the mussels I’d been eating were bad. I couldn’t make it to the bathroom. ---

My first experience eating mussels was a couple of years ago - they tasted so bad, I spit them out and wiped my tongue off with the napkin. No stomach problems from that (and I’m still not a fan of mussels). 🙂 ---

Good to hear that I’m not the only one. Four c-sections in a row. Some of the anesthesiologists were also excellent at barf-management, some not so much. One of them got taken by surprise (even though I warned him twice) and got drenched in nasty, acidic, bile-smelling barf. I felt terrible about it. Once, I even got the barfs AFTER the baby was born. I seriously couldn’t even keep down jello and chicken broth for about 24 hours post-op. ---

Not since December 2000. The last time before that was September 1998, and the last time before that was January 1984. I did have dry heaves a few years ago in Peru (possibly from unwholesome ceviche). ---

Just a couple weeks ago on a fishing trip. The swells were about 5-6 feet. I thought I was OK, then I realized I wasn’t and it was just matter of time. And the time was RIGHT THAT MOMENT. I leaned over the side and after three big heaves, I suddenly felt 100% better. Nobody else even realized it. About a minute later a friend came over to ask if I saw him landing the fish at the back of the boat and I told him “no, I was hurling over the side”. Another guy who was about 5 feet from me at the time said “well, you were awfully subtle about it. I had no idea.” Before that, it was in 1995 when I had the stomach flu. So, about 17 years. Not bad. ---

I’m pretty much guaranteed to throw up if I eat breakfast too early or eat too much food for breakfast. It’s been that way my whole life. I probably most recently threw up a month ago? ---

I’m not much of a barfer. As an adult, once in college from drinking, and once around age 32 from drinking, (both times mixing more than two alcohols). January 2010 from the flu, and then the last time was last summer. The one from last summer was the first time I had to vomit from being grossed out. Mind you, I make dogs barf as part of my job. I’m used to dogs vomiting in front of me, and I’m used to fishing through it to look for swallowed items. But this one took the cake. The dog had eaten two condoms and three tampons. Yes, the owner was a gross hoebag of a girl. I had to go outside for fresh air from the smell, and horked into a dumpster. Which was also really gross. It was just a gross evening in general that night and I was so glad when my shift was over! ---

My last time was the day before yesterday. I vomit about once a month, but the most distressing thing is that I can’t do it once and stop…I lose the entire day. The other day it started well before dawn, and continued until about five thirty in the afternoon, with me vomiting approximately every twenty-five minutes. So that’s vomiting at least 24 times (of course, 22 of them were only water). By the time I consider going to the hospital, I’d rather just die, TYVM. My husband thinks I ought to go to the doctor today, but I can’t see myself going in with such a vague complaint when it’s not actually happening…might as well just write the doc a blank check. And I have no faith he would even diagnose anything. ---

A couple of weeks ago. The day after Christmas I fell down a flight of stairs - the dog and I disagreed who was going to go down first. He won. I finally went to the ER after a week and found out I had fractured my pelvis. After the pain killers they gave me were gone, I was taking some prescription (800mg?) ibuprofen that my son had left behind last time he visited me - no one told me that you have to eat when you take large quantities of ibuprofen. I’m still taking it (over the counter kind) but now know to eat. And heaving when your pelvis is busted really hurts.l ---

Late 1990s, at college - but it’s not what you think. It was either food poisoning or a bad reaction to the multivitamin supplement I was taking at the time. The vitamin caused me to suffer from easily burst capillaries - so when I did throw up, I had raccoon rings around my eyes. Haven’t thrown up since, but I get extremely anxious if I feel nauseous. I fight the urge with every ounce of will I have. ---

I busted my arm on Monday, March 1, 2010. On Friday, March 5th, noticing I had some eggs in the frig, made a tomato cheese omelet. If I had thought for half a second, I would have realized that I bought those eggs to make myself a nice birthday breakfast on December 25, 2009. I spent that night puking my guts out. ---
