When was the last time you went to a drive-in movie?

Last one I went to was a double-feature of Evan Almighty and The Simpson’s Movie.

Really, the idea was to take the kid and let her watch movies from the car. However, Sophie immediately made friends with other kids at the movie and they ran around the playground and pretty much ignored the films.

I live 6 blocks from one of the apparantly few year-round drive-ins left, so I’ve been to a dozen or so over the last year, mostly for double-features the kids like.

Before that…not since high school; think the last one I saw was Texas Chain Saw Massacre, in the early 80’s. <Mentioning time, because I have no idea if that was an original run or a re-run>

You mean when I got my foot stuck in the glove compartment?

About 1973.

How embarrassment.

Never. Parents never took me to one when I was little, and by the time I could drive all the local ones were long gone. I remember one time seeing a movie playing on one across the street from a store we were at, though.

E.T. in 82.

I’d gladly go all the time, but I think the closest one is hundreds of miles away. I lamented not having one nearby when I was in high school. I went to a consolidated high school that pooled students from a large rural area out of nine small towns. So there was nothing to do.

When I was little, there was a drive-in a few miles from our house. Mom, Dad, Sis and I would go to A & W for dinner on the way to the movie. We went once a month or so.

It closed.

In the early 90’s, the ex and I would go to the one open about 15 miles away (65-Hi in Blaine). Maybe, again, once a month we’d load the car up with friends, food, and lawn chairs. It tapered off to maybe once or twice per summer once TheKid was born.

It also closed.

Now, the closest drive-ins are 70 miles or so to the west, or 40 miles or so to the east (almost in Wisconsin). TheKid and I go at least once per summer, usually to the one out west (in Litchfield), despite the long drive out there. Our cabin is 30 miles away, so we’ll go there afterwards to crash. Driving home at 2AM used to be fine. Now I’m old.

Of course, drive-ins have a limited season here. In fact, the Starlite in Litchfield is already closed for the season.

Jeez, it was back in the mid '70s. The Missus and I were in High School, and double-dated with another couple. We had fun, but didn’t see much of the movie.

No idea what movie we saw, either.

The hubby and I were delighted when we discovered there was a drive-in theater about a half an hour away (the same distance as the 10-screen movie theater). We went this past summer to see Sorcerer’s Apprentice. I was surprised to find that, at least at that particular theater, they no longer use speakers you hang in your car window; they broadcast on a specific radio station! (I don’t know what you’re supposed to do if your car radio doesn’t work).

We picked up dinner on the way, and ate it while watching the movie.

The drive-in near where I live has the same deal. My car stereo works, but what I’ve done when I’ve gone is take a little boombox with me, so that way I’m not running down the car battery.

I don’t remember the movie. It was raining and I was focused on making out. It was sometime around 1991 though.

Last time I went to a drive in we saw Born in east L.A.

Since we’re on the subject, I want to express my wish to stay at the Movie Manor Hotel, a hotel/drive-in combo in Monte Vista, CO.

I remember seeing a double feature of Dreamscape and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai at the local and long-gone drive-in.

Me too. My one and only drive-in experience. I was 3 or 4 years old.

I’m pretty sure I haven’t been since the early 1960s.

Haven’t gone the past couple of summers, but we went once or twice a year up until then. I’ve actually seen more movies in drive-ins in the past 15 years than I did as a kid in the 60s.

When I was a kid in the 70s, in Erie PA. I think it was “House of Usher” with Vincent Price.

1967 or 1968 - high school

I went with “A what?” I am familiar with the concept, but to the best of my knowledge I have never lived within driving distance of a working drive-in. (Born in '87)
