We’ll require more old, entrenched politicians to die or retire and more Gen Xers and Yers to get involved in government…then it will happen.
What I despise most about the way this issue has been and continues to be handled by our government is through scare-mongering, while little old harmless alcohol that never hurt a soul remains legal. It’s a travesty.
My county is dry. And it doesn’t mean much of anything, as it’s still possible to get a liquor license.
As for the OP: apparently I live in a bubble: the idea of Marijuana becoming legal seems extremely unlikely to me, if only because the people around here that want it so are too unmotivated to do anything about it.
I can’t imagine ever being able to buy a pack of Panama Red 100’s at the 7-11, but I’d imagine decriminalization sooner or later. Maybe a Netherlands style dealio in certain cities (San Francisco, I’m looking at you).
I suspect that there were people who thought that way in the sixties and seventies, if the near-future SF I’ve read from that period is any indication.
