They still do that up there? I was going to mention earlier that we have my grandfather’s undergrad* (1909) and MD (1913) degrees. The latter is entirely in Latin, in a graceful Spencerian** script.
*Not sure what kind of degree that is. The title is Phamaceutical Chemist, but he was only 19y.o. in 1909. It’s from Kansas State.
Grauduated back in '88. Mine was withheld at graduation because I had a lost textbook that required a fee to replace.
I never paid the fee, and never got the paper diploma. I sometimes think about going back to the hometown HS and seeing if I can get the diploma, but I have fears of running into an old teacher in the hallway while trying to slip into the admin office.
Mrs Nelson: “Why, I do declare! Is that little Gargoyle? Why it is, after all these years. And such a grown up handsome young man. You were always my favorite, so honest and upstanding! What brings you here?”
Me: “Ummm, I kind of…ummm…lost my algebra book. I think someone stole it from my locker…have you seen it? It had a dust cover on it…that we made the first day of class…I believe it has ‘Van Halen Kicks Ass!’ written on the front in magic marker? Surrounded by flames?”
It’s in a lockbox, with other papers that may or may not be useful down the line, like my birth certificate and AKC papers for a long-deceased dog. It came in a heavy red folder-thingy, so I kept it. I graduated late for medical reasons, so I’m officially the class of '93.
My damn recruiter has it. I always wondered what he did with it until I went on recruiting duty. When I took over the office I went to cleaning out the filing cabinets in the back and found about 200 high school diplomas. I also found bags of clothing to include panties and bras, and various other things that would probably be worthy of a whole other thread.
I know exactly where is my HS diploma. It’s next to my other diplomas and certificates in a file drawer, except for my last diploma which is framed and hanging on the wall.
I’ve only been out of HS for 6 years, but I do know where it is… shoved on a bookcase. I haven’t looked at it in years, considering I have 3 degrees currently (and working on a fourth) of greater importance. I think I had it displayed for all of two months after I earned it, until I started college and realized how pointless it was then.
Not a diploma - I don’t recall getting anything like that - but my final Higher School Certificate - I saw about half an hour ago. It’s framed and hanging on the wall in one of the spare bedrooms.
In a box in storage in the basement, along with undergrad and grad diplomas. I had them inconspicuously on display at my old apartment, but when I moved about six months ago I decided aginst displaying them anymore.
I went to three different high schools. I was graduated in 1972, but did not attend the ceremony, have never seen my diploma, and have not once given it a moment’s thought.
I don’t have a clue where my high school diploma is…I last saw it the night I graduated (May or June of 2000, I honestly don’t remember). I really like Booker57’s idea.
I do know where my grandfather’s high school diploma is though. For many years it sat in the top drawer of an old washstand, and is now with Mom’s photo albums in a closet next to my computer.
I won’t get my college degree until December. I’m framing it.
I never had a high school diploma, since I didn’t graduate from high school. I guess that simplifies the matter of knowing where the diploma is. It is in an alternate universe, along with my date to the Senior Prom.
It’s in a leather case (roughly the size of a large wallet) in my closet.
Certificates of mine concerning my success in testing are on top of the bookcase, and certificates of organization membership and awards are hanging on my wall.
I found mine when I was cleaning the closet yesterday. I pulled it out and set it on top of my computer monitor for a while, but back in the closet it goes today. It makes me kind of sad that a document I spent 12 years of my life earning lives in my closet, but I do have an associates and a bachelors on my wall in the livingroom so that makes up for it.
