I havent’ been out of my house for a week, and now I can’t find my keys. I had to appear in court by phone yesterday because I couldnt find my damn keys. I’ve looked everywhere! I know my house is chaotic, making it more of a challenge, but c’mon! I’ve checked under the cushions, in various drawers that might have been hanging open, I’ve cleaned up piles of things spilling off tables in hopes they’d be there…nuthin. So, I’m asking the Dope, cuz you guys know everything: where are my keys? ---

1. In that situation, I ask myself “Ok, where \*haven’t \*I looked, no matter how unlikely?” 2. Have you looked outside, near the door, or actually \*in \*the door lock? 3. How about the trash? ---

Check your clothes, especially coat pockets. Check the car. Check the lock (seriously). ---

Look in the refrigerator, next to the microwave, and on the counter where you set down the bags of groceries. Look in your pants pocket. ---

ummm, I feel a little foolish typing this but that may pale in comparison to what you’re going through…So, here goes: Places I Normally Misplace My Keys: 1. in the pocket of whatever was worn at the time, if the item’s been laundered check the washer/dryer. 2. on level surfaces waist level and above outside my home. usually between the car and house but I’ve also done it on the roof of my vehicle and in various places I stop when jogging. It always helps me to envision what I was doing/wearing during the moments my keys were last in my possession-- many times something unusual has happened for example; my neighbor’s black lab approached as I returned from the grocery store. He had a kitten in his mouth. I became flustered, sat the groceries down and placed my keys on an exterior window ledge. The kitten was fine. The lab was fine. My husband came out to see what the fuss was (so I then had no need of unlocking our backdoor), we went inside with the groceries. My husband drove us around for the next few days, a 3 day weekend, so suddenly it was Monday morning and I hadn’t seen for keys for days. Hope this helps you envision where your keys are lurking. ---

Check the pockets of the pants and shirts you’ve worn since then. Look on the floor near the office chair you like to lean back in. Look on the floor next to the counter where you set the groceries. Look on the floor near your nightstand. ---

Definitely check the trash - my bro-in-law once threw his keys away, accidentally. We 'bout tore that house apart. Look in the fridge, as well as on top. Hell, I’ve put the remote in there. ---

Check the door lock. I once (ok, more than once) tore my place apart looking for my keys, only to find that I’d somehow managed to leave them outside in the lock. Luckily, no one noticed and stole them, or let themselves in. ---

I rarely lose keys, but when I do, I fo it well. I’ve thrown them away, left them in stores, put them in the shower, and in the wahing machine. ---
