Thanks for the link, Robo, and the suggestions everyone – but actually, I don’t mind rolling them; kind of enjoy it. An easy, almost mindless activity while watching t.v. It’s the bank I don’t like dealing with; special trip either on my way to work and rushing, or use part of my lunch hour, then deal with a grumpy teller (not because of the coins - they’re always grumpy). I’ve never had to put my name & acct # on the rolls. I do try to use the change in stores to give the exact amount, but I’m one of those people who hates holding up others while I count it out; feel pressured and end up dumping the change in the floor or something. Oh well, a minor inconvenience.
If you’re going to bring in rolled coins (I use a coin roller and love it!) consult your Bank about whether to put your account information on the rolls. I was told at one point that it was required, and continued to do it until I was told that I should not be doing it. It probably depends on the counting and collection method used by the Bank.
I always wait until I have $100 rolled so that I can go in and get a nice crisp Benjamin Franklin.
Don’t forget not everyone has a bank NOR does everyone have a car.
I use TCF as it is very convenient as it has offices in most Jewel (Albertson’s) supermarkets.
They don’t roll coins. I live in the city so I don’t own a car. I am not lugging 100 dollars worth of pennies on an el and two busses to get to a bank.
A lot of others feel this way so they use the coinstar etc. Actually many consider 8% steep but I know a lot of people that will pay $3 in an ATM to get $20.
