In this fly fishing video ([- YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4-k4Cw0fno&t=244s)) the guide identified as Francisco Vilches is rocking a straw hat. You can get a good look at the hat at 3:36 and in few other places. It’s one of the few wide brimmed straw hats I’ve seen that doesn’t look like an old lady’s gardening hat. ---

It looks like his has worn in and he’s taken the bands or chinstrap ties off. Or he’s some enterprising hippie type who makes his own as a hobby. If you look at the crown of the hat, it’s fairly different than most. It doesn’t have the two “two camel humps” that a lot of wide brim straw hats have on the crown. It’s more like a straw version of a cavalry hat. ---

Sorry to follow my own post, but I must have this hat. You can get a good look at the crown of the hat at about 13:01. It’s kind of like the crown of fedora, but lower. The brim is pretty wide, but doesn’t flop down on the sides. I’m hoping who knows hats will find this thread and be able to either link to one, or at least help me describe it in proper terms for an online search. ---

He’s Chilean, so it may be a Chilean hat, but the truth is it’s probably generically Central / South American. ---

Thanks, I especially appreciate the pic of the hat. Alas, the crown on the hat on ebay is more domed than the hat he wears. I’m actually in touch with his lodge by email about rate/availability. If I work up the courage, I might ask him where he got that magnificent hat. ---

Do you see anything you like if you do an image search for [straw wide brim cowboy hat](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1600&bih=767&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=straw+wide+brim+cowboy+hat&oq=straw+wide+brim+cowboy+hat) ? I see some similarities to the [Guatemalan Palm Leaf Hat](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1600&bih=767&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=guatemalan+palm+leaf+hat&oq=guatemalan+palm+leaf+hat) and the [Mexican Sun Hat](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1600&bih=767&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=mexican+sun+hat&oq=mexican+sun+hat)(when not a costume sombrero). ---
