There is of course [GQ](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/forumdisplay.php?f=3) (free, $15 after 30 days), but i’ve come across a few others that i’ve found useful. These include the [Wikipedia reference desk](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:RD) ($0), [Google Answers](http://answers.google.com) ($2-200) and [Ask MetaFilter](http://www.br1an.net/2004/11/got-questions-real-people-give-real_30.html)($5). The only one that is completely free forever is the Wikipedia reference desk. Oh! Don’t forget your [online shrink](http://www.etherapistsonline.com/therapy/psychiatrist.htm) ($35 per e-mail). Does anyone else have a place they go for “general questions”? ---

You could try [Answerbag](http://www.answerbag.com/). I haven’t asked any questions there (I’d go to GQ here for that), but I have answered a bunch. ---

I still don’t get the joke. You listed the SDMB as well as other common and real question answer places in your OP and implied that they would not be adequate for answering something you wanted to ask. What was the joke? ---
