I sweat. And I’m one for simplicity.

But Hanes Her Way anklets are too white to wear with my work clothes.

Anyone make a decent fitting black anklet sock of thick sturdy cotton?

All I find are these silly high-poly blend socks or men’s socks that are too big for my size 8 (women’s) foot.

Should I just dye my beloved Hanes Her Ways?

Have you tried the boys’ section of the clothing department?

oh, snap.

No, I haven’t. And I was browsing it yesterday looking for “small” socks for my infant son who doesn’t fit in infant socks.

Duh. Okay, I’ll check it out.

I wear a size 8½ or 9 and I’ve found black men’s crew socks that fit OK. That was several years ago, though.

I just got a bunch of women’s cotten black socks at Old Navy. I think they were 2 for $5. I wear black and navy suits to work, always with black shoes, and always with black socks. I had many dress socks from Brooks Brothers, but they contained so much nylon they made my feet hot. So I’ve done a ‘sock wardrobe swap.’

Have they stopped their super stupid commercials? I’ve avoided them and their associates for years because their commercials were just painfully mind-numbing …

I found my last pair of plain black socks (anklet, cotton/? blend, a bit more padding on the bottom) in a local Wal-Mart clearance bin. (‘George’ I belive is the brand.) For $0.50 they’ve been great: enough cotton so my foot doesn’t overheat, enough stretchy stuff so it stays put, and so far no fading of color after nearly a year of wear.

I usually get my socks at Hanes/Legg’s/Bali outlets: they’ve got all kinds of styles and sizes for (usually) good prices. Just watch the bulk packs of ’ factory seconds’: normally they merely have cosmetic flaws, but occasionally one with more serious flaws slips by the quality control people. They’ve never given me a problem about exchanging those ones though.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.

Gods, I wish we still have Mervyns here. I loved their socks. Except for the fact that they were too damn big … but maybe I would have found what I wanted in the boys dept.

Nightsong, yeah, I’ve owned a couple of ‘George’ socks … decent, tan, holding up. But its been a long time since I’ve been to WalMart for different “I think one person can make a difference” reasons.

So, I headed out to Target over the weekend (part of the Mervyns group) and got a pair of large boys socks. Still not mostly cotton, but sturdy and comfortable. For once I don’t look like Michael Jackson walking around the office.

I’ll probably get a couple more pair and use them this summer, then wait for ‘back to school’ sales to find some higher cotton count ones, or keep my eyes peeled for outlet stores.

Thanks, all.
