I’m sure there is a place to hear live jazz in Dallas. I just haven’t found it. Does your city have a place which features live jazz? ---

We have nothing world-class, but we do have [Melissa Bledsoe Fisher](http://home.gci.net/~jazzmom/discography.html), who swings pretty hard at Sullivan’s every Friday. She plays piano and sings standards. ---

In DC, go to Blues Alley in Goergetown. Here in Alexandria, there’s a little spot in Lod Town simply called “Live Jazz.” ---

There are a [few places in the LA area](http://jazz.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=jazz&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lajazz.com); [this](http://www.jazzbakery.com/) is my favorite. I’m kind of picky about what I’ll listen to, though, so I don’t really go out much (that and it’s kind of boring to go alone–too dark to read between sets). Although it isn’t be the best venue, I’m going to catch [Gutbucket](http://www.gutweb.com/) at [Cafe Metropol](http://www.cafemetropol.com/) on May 5. I haven’t been able to persuade anyone else to go, _especially_ anyone who’ve I exposed to them; I guess the Ornette Coleman “free jazz” type of music just isn’t that appealing to many. Stranger ---

Here in Sacramento, you could try the **On Broadway Cafe House of Jazz**. Apparently, it’s this cafe. On Broadway. That features Jazz music. Or so I’ve heard. And if you happen to be into Dixieland, you must not miss [The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee](http://www.sacjazz.com/), celebrating its 32nd anniversary this Memorial Day. ---

When I lived in Seattle in the early 90s, there were two venues: Demetriou’s Jazz Alley and Thursday nights at the Redhook Brewery. Wonder if either is still there? ---

Really nice upscale club called Zanzibar Blue, which is, I believe, owned by the same folks who run Warmdaddy’s, a blues club. Plus, of course, various concerts and minor appearances all over town. ---

**Stinkum** touched on this, but jazz is alive, well, and kicking in Indianapolis. Every Friday’s Indianapolis Star has a Weekend section with a full guide to who’s playing where. I’d send you to the Jazz Kitchen in Broadripple. The Indiana Roof downtown is a beautiful venue for top jazz acts. ---
