I know a few famous bands/musicians/singers came out of Chicago.

- Smashing Pumpkins

- Chicago (the band, originally the CTA)

- The Buckinghams

- Lou Rawls

- The Cryin Shames (there were two bands with this name!)

- Shadows of Night ( G-L-O-R-I-A)

- Chicago Symphony (why not? count their Grammys)
In 1960, the CSO won the first of its 56 Grammy Awards (up to 2001) [http://www.cosmopolis.ch/english/cosmo21/chicago\_symphony.htm](http://www.cosmopolis.ch/english/cosmo21/chicago_symphony.htm)

- Buddy Guy

- Muddy Waters

I’m sure I missed quite a few others from Chicago.

So do you know where other bands originated?

I think I need to add a footnote.

Bands like The Grateful Dead had members from all over the country. But I think it’s safe to say, The Grateful Dead came from San Francisco.
