By what measure is it the 3rd in the nation?
My cursory look at wiki shows
UCF is 16th on the list of university enrollment
Harvard’s only number 4? The top 3 had better be real douchey… Oh. Oh yeah, Brown guys are epic douches. As I clicked toward number 1, I kept muttering, “Please don’t be my school, please don’t be my school…”
Apparently, we’re spoiled rich kids, but we’re not douchey. That’s pretty hard to do.
USC should have been top 5.
Ha! Check out number 16.
Okay, at first I read that response and thought, “Huh? Yeah, I saw that. I clicked all the way to number 1.” Then it hit me, “Holy gods, **Gibbler **thinks I’m a trojan!” I didn’t go to *that *school of spoiled douches. My spoiled douche school didn’t make the list.
Those numbers are all from 2008. It was widely reported in the state and local press that it was the third-largest by overall enrolment as of Fall '09… see here for example.
I think this is pretty fair. Harvard folks tend to be a lot less douche-ier than one might expect, if only because people tend to project all of their insecurities, hatred, resentment, excessive deference, etc. towards Harvard affiliated folks. One of my profs summed it up thusly: “Nobody is agnostic about Harvard.”
It also might be a factor that there are no really nationally known sports programs there. I have seen class-A douche-yness around Harvard-Yale, which only undergraduate students seem to care about. Sorry, that’s not a rivalry. Come see how Texans feel about Oklahomans for the real deal.
I have my grad degrees from there so I am not a dyed-in-the-wool Crimson sort. But I don’t recall rolling my eyes much around undergrad students - not like I do around the Duke, Brown, or Stanford alums that I’ve encountered. At Harvard these folks can still come across as epic DBs.
Some, of course. I know many wonderful folks from these schools as well.
Hmmmm…secretly, I hope it’s Macalester.
I got an Engineering degree from a top tier private liberal arts university that ranks consistently in top ten of US N&WR National Universities (behind Harvard and Princeton, I was in E School of the U) as well as quite high in the GQ Douchiness ranking, ahead of Harvard and Princeton. Home of the Lying Whore saga, Duke University.
I have and do call it far worse than that; however, I am of course perfectly cordial to the Trojays at my law school. Like, I make an attempt not to call them Trojays.
I take it one day at a time.
University of Illinois. No, all state schools can’t be lumped together. I’ve spent time at UIC and UIUC. The former isn’t even considered a crappy school, but the difference was stark.
Typical Harvard statement right there.
I do take exception at lumping in all public/state schools. That might be kinda snotty. But I’m damned proud of my snooty state university education.
Dudette, you ain’t kiddin’. There isn’t any loyalty among the Ivies, either. I’ve never heard Harvard dumped on more than by Penn faculty.
The nation is full of really phenomenal schools, I’ve been blessed to attend not one, but two really fine educational institutions, but one of those institutions was a public school (University of Michigan) so I’m hard pressed to see elite private schools as inherently more rigorous or valuable. If you don’t engage the material, you’re going to get a shit education no matter what, and vice-versa. Not only that, but I don’t buy into the stereotypes, because I don’t fit the stereotype by any stretch of the imagination.
