# Where do leaf peepers come from?

Another Ohioan here. I love the change in colors in the fall. It’s my favorite time of year. You mentioned Southern Ohio… this time of year is the busiest for [Hocking Hills](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hocking_Hills), primarily due to hikers and tourists who want to see the fall colors.

For what it’s worth, I was assuming frogs rather than insects or the like because there’s a species of frog around here called “spring peepers”. Though there, I think that “peep” doesn’t refer to looking, but is an onomatopoeia for their call, disproportionately loud for a creature of their size.
