Where do leaf peepers come from?

Another Ohioan here. I love the change in colors in the fall. It’s my favorite time of year. You mentioned Southern Ohio… this time of year is the busiest for Hocking Hills, primarily due to hikers and tourists who want to see the fall colors.

For what it’s worth, I was assuming frogs rather than insects or the like because there’s a species of frog around here called “spring peepers”. Though there, I think that “peep” doesn’t refer to looking, but is an onomatopoeia for their call, disproportionately loud for a creature of their size.
