Well, I don’t think it’s a zombie resurrection yet, so I’ll report in that I _did_ visit the [Computer History Museum](http://www.computerhistory.org/) today.

'Saw the Difference Engine in operation (it’s lubricated with Canola Oil, as it turns out); a couple of Crays; parts of Colossus and ENIAC; the famed Kitchen Computer (with integrated cutting board); a couple of Apple Is (and a III, and a Lisa); the first mouse; SHAKEY the robot; a NORAD “SAGE” control console—with integral cigarette lighters; a few early hard disks the size of sawmill blades, all sorts of good stuff.

You may stare slack-jawed in awe, now.

I’ve been there!

I’ve been there!

Wait, does this mean … I’m a Geek? Eek!

I can recommend any chess tournament for meeting Geeks.

I went there two weeks ago. I strolled around saying “I used that, I used that” - PDP-1, UNIX PC, Commodore 64, Computer Space, the very first coin-op video game. When I get more time I’m going to volunteer there.
They could use a better gift shop. I bought a Difference Engine mug, but only because I felt I had to buy something. But definitely geek heaven, though.

And for book geeks, [Hay-on-Wye](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hay-on-Wye), an entire town of books! Although my personal numonic is Ham-on-Rye.

Yeah. I bought a T-Shirt, though I’d have loved a Difference Engine Testors model kit, or some such. (Or if ya really [wanted](http://www.meccano.us/difference_engines/rde_1/) to get [fancy](http://acarol.woz.org/)…)
