Has anybody seen evidence of Dick Cheney?? He has been conspicously absent from view. Is he bunkered down in the situation room at the White House and not available to the media? Hoping against hope that he wasn’t at the Pentagon. ---

There was a picture distributed yesterday showing the vice president and Secretary of State Powell sitting beside the president at a Cabinet meeting. The Secret Service always knows where the vice president is. And I’m sure that Cheney is sitting in on all of the NSA meetings. ---

I haven’t heard any statements from him - let’s hope he didn’t have a heart attack or anything. If he was at the Pentagon, he most likely would have been on the other side, where the Joint Chief’s offices are. ---

My guess is since Cheney is ex-secretary of Defense, he has been thrown into an unofficial lieutenant role for the current SoD. He’s of alot more use there than as VP. ---

**gabbyhayes** , your information is not very uhhh…good. Cheney was in the White House situation room (an underground bunker) immediately after the initial attack and all planes had been accounted for. The rest of the White House was evacuated. Congress was not “relocated.” The Capitol was evacuated and the majority leaders were moved to a secret bunker - standard practice for a national emergency. Bush was in Florida and planning to back to Washington. Because of the attacks, Air Force One proceeded to zig-zag accross the US on a secret route to various military bases. GWB was in audio contact with Cheney and all the people in the situation room throughout the whole day. No transfer of power has taken place. Cheney was never “president” and GWB was never not president. If both GWB _and_ Cheney were to die, then yes, succession proceeds to the Speaker of the House and then the President Pro Tem of the Senate. ---

If this thread seems a little, uh, discontinuous, it’s because I’ve deleted a couple of particularly stupid rants which do not belong in this forum. I’ve deleted them because I previously said I would. To the last guy, whose username I didn’t get but who just quoted the post for purposes of adding a rolleyes smile, you’re not in trouble – I just had to delete that post too to get rid of the rant. ---

Manhattan, Id personally like to see the post just to understand the reactions after it. I can certainly understand if it was utterly distasteful but it’s more gratifying to see irrational rants get picked apart than deleted. JMO 🙂 ---

Thank you both. I mainly wanted to dispel a conspiracy theory by my colleague. I won’t go into the details here, but I thought that Cheney’s reclusiveness may be a security procedure and not anything else. ---

Cheney has been out of sight a lot. This all looks too much like a case of Russian measles. I am hoping that this is just the result of them not realizing how this looks because their thoughts are on the details that must be attended to. I think it is unfortunate and ill considered that he did not make more of an appearance. His presence could help reassure Americans. ---

i read somewhere that the reason we aren’t seeing or hearing much from cheney was because the gov’t can’t have them in the same location in case of another incident. if one gets attacked, God willing, the other would be safe and be able to pick up the reigns in case something should happen to the the president… ---

And as for all the “Bush quaking in fear” baloney, in times of crisis, the President doesn’t have much choice as to what he does.
