Pantom, "Paises Bajos’ or ‘Paix Baux’ is a pretty common denomination for what we know as the Netherlands/Holland - in fact, ‘Nederland’ means ‘Underland’ as a large part of the country is not only flat but below sea-level. Not to extend too much on this issue but Holland is actually a number of regions (IIRC, Frison is yet another oficial language there, as Frisia was one of those regions) that broke away from Spanish rule and through a very large fleet began building their own empire.

Do you think that Hezbollah are unhappy that the only footage that CNN can get are endless shots of Israeli artillery, Israeli tanks, Israeli soldiers, etc, all pounding the living crap out of Lebanon? Their PR department knows exactly what it is doing. They keep their fighters in the shadows and push forward the civilian casualties into the spotlight. In the end, it’s difficult for the world to remember that it’s not Israel that’s the aggressor here.

I see footage of the effects of Hezbolla explosives in Haifa all of the time. If the OP wants shots of the rockets being fired from Lebanon he’s going to have to volunteer I guess.

And it’s “who is the agressor in this particular instance.” I’m sure that the Shiite Hezbolla or Arabs in general would not agree that they are the original agressors, way back when. You and I might agree that the establishment of the nation of Israel was so long ago that it’s an accomplished fact but it’s pretty clear that they don’t agree with that. Somehow a way must be found to overcome the rather casual way in which Israel was formed by those bigdome political leaders who left the messy details for future generations to wrestle with. It’s another instance of someone not even considering the after effects of an action, akin to our current situation in Iraq.

Such phrasing is classic evasion by keyboard cheerleaders for war: “The” Lebanese. “The” Palestinians. “They will pay a very, very steep price.” Meanwhile, in the real world, the vast majority of the victims of the Israeli onslaught are civilians being subjected to collective punishment.

Cohen – like so many others in the American punditocracy – depicts the death of an Israeli civilian as far more tragic and important than the death of an Arab civilian.

There’s something really sick about such righteous support for civilian death and destruction.
