Where is prostitution legal and illegal? One time as a teenager we took a road trip..

Prostitution itself is legal in Canada. Solicitation for the purposes of prostitution, procuring for prostitution, and living off of the avails of prostitution are all illegal.

In other words, you can have sex with all the sex-workers you want, but you can not discuss price.

I don’t understand why it’s that way, but that’s what it is. Some of the girls I worked with (I worked with Aids Calgary, not ‘with’ them on the street) said that the price was understood, and negotiations did not happen other than a man handing her money beforehand.

I’m curious to know what their arguments were - seeing as how the laws vary widely from state to state in Australia without any noticeably detrimental effects either way, it’s hard to see what benefits a society receives by outlawing prostitution. The only notable fact is that prostitution continues to exist regardless of the law.

The General Questions forum is not the place for debates on whether prostitution should be legal, or rants about the high cost of getting laid. Let’s stick to the factual question of where prostitution is legal.
