Cats are serious predators. They will back up a full grown grizzly, probably because the grizzly can imagine what it would be like to have them razor claws and needle teeth going all facehugger on it. Nightmare stuff there. ---

The sad thing is she will probably get the cat picked up by animal services and euthanized. But she did totally derserve it. In the meantime the dog is thinking “go mom! … wait, what? Mom? Mom? Where ya going? Mom? Oh shit I’m alone out here with that beast!” ---

I can just hear the dog after the woman goes inside: “Hey, there, nice kitty - I’m not really with her, OK? I told her not to do that. We’re cool, right? OK?” Now I want to see the video of the alien cat when it bursts from her cat-kicking chest. ---

This is why every kid should learn the bare basics of dog and [cat body language.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzU-5Oo0iEU) Just like they learn about traffic. An estimated number of [4.5 million dog bites happen in the US every year,](http://www.medicinenet.com/dog_bite_treatment/article.htm#how_many_dog_bites_occur) and the number of cat bites and scratches probably isn’t much lower. When a cat s[hows you it is aggressive](http://messybeast.com/images/cat-chat1.png) and [it means business](http://messybeast.com/cat_talk2.htm)? Then continuing to confront it is a Very Bad Idea. And I have a four inch scar on my leg to prove it. That was when I looked up the info on cat body language, and I have never had problems since. ---

I work with cats. I’ve seen a cat go crotch-seeking missile on a vet I work with, like Pinky in the video did, when it was leashed in an attempt to capture it. I’m pretty sure the expression “fighting tooth and nail” came about when someone tried to do something to a cat. I love cats, I own several but I treat them with caution and respect for the fact that they are just one odd gesture away from a turning into a ravenous bugblatter beast if Traal that wants to eat you before you can eat it. Why do I put up with them? Because seriously, when they are not trying to kill you or drive you crazy, they are freaking adorable. ---
