Where is the Midwest?

Well, it was Pittsburgh, and I didn’t think it was necessary to point out that St. Louis has, subsequently, supplanted Pittsburgh as the Gateway to the West. Lets not also forget that there is a reason that Northwestern University sits firmly in the Mid-West.

Another thought: Pittsburgh is just about the extreme East edge of the “Pop” world, giving way to “Soda” not much further east. That may put it, at least culturally, in the Mid-West.

The Midwest is located in those parts of the United States of America where people cannot pronounce a long “O”. If you hear someone pronounce “snow” as “sneow,” you’re in the Midwest.

Piffle. I spent five years in eastern Nebraska and every time I drove into Iowa, there it was on the sign: “Welcome to the Heart of It All!”. If they want to fight with Ohio over it, that’s their problem. Or perhaps they got bored with it and have changed it since I’ve lived there.

Nebraska, incidentally, proclaimed itself “The Good Life”, whatever that means.

Actually, on March 16, 2001 the US Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled that that Ohio’s motto “With God All Things Are Possible” IS constitutional. See ACLU of Ohio v. Capital Square Review, electronic cite 201 FED App 0073p.
