A knowledgeable Doper will be along shortly, but I believe this may be incorrect. There is hypothesised to have been a period called inflation where the expansion of the universe may have exceeded the speed of light.
I believe the expansion is already faster than the speed of light and is still accelerating.
I thought this was the turtles-all-the-waydown / my-karma-ran-over-your-dogma cosmology thread. It’s been a little light on technical detail since around post #5.
