What do they call it when they make you go past the intersection a couple hundred feet and make a uturn and then come back to the intersection to turn right(thus accomplishing a left turn). They’ve done that to two intersections around here. The local traffic engineers claim it helps traffic flow, but I dunno. I ain’t too sure They’ve ever actually had to try to get through one of those damn thing during rush hour.
That’s called a “Michigan left.”
As for your doubts, engineers don’t just do things like that on a whim. Throughput can be and is counted before and after such changes.
In the UK, it would say ‘take the second/third (etc) exit’. Quite clear if you can count!
That’s exactly what mine does and then, it the roundabout is big enough, I get “Take the next exit” at the appropriate point.
Having a satnav does not preclude observing signs and lane markings.
See post #60 which explains both maneuvers with cites.
I missed the earlier post that explains what they are(post 60, thanks @LSLGuy). I know they don’t install them on a whim, the first one they installed disrupted several businesses and put a restaurant/custom meat smoking shop that had been a local institution forever out of business. Around here, my experience is that during rush hour you’re screwed if you try to use it.
