College diplomas are framed and for the moment, in my son’s room (was the guest bedroom and had the most wall space. My high school one is on the wall in the hallway in my parents’ house. If I remember right, they framed it and put it on the wall while I was in college, and it’s still there- I never cared about it.
Never got one, there was no such thing given when I finished HS. The closest thing would be the little piece of paper stating my grade from the national University Entrance Exam, and that one is MIA; if I ever need it again, I have to ask for another copy.
My college degrees are all rolled up together. The American university gave me a wallet-sized laminated copy, which is in a wallet with other mementos.
Fuck if I know. It’s possible it’s gone for good, I’m not sure if I’ve seen it even in the last decade.
But I do remember my last name was misspelled on it. Story of my life :).
I just got my HS diploma back. It was in a box found in the attic of my old house. Apparently my parents forgot it when they moved. The new owners were about to sell the place, and in cleaning it out found a box with my high school diploma, some stuff from the military, and other odds and ends. They shipped it to me.
So NOW I have a box of this stuff sitting around.
High school, International Baccalaureate, Bachelor’s, and Associate diplomas are probably all on the top shelf of the closet in my bedroom at my parents house, where they’ve all been since receiving them. The BA diploma is probably still in the mailing tube I put it in shortly after receiving it in 2009. I never have actually seen the AS diploma but my parents tolerate me using their address as a permanent mailing address.
If I’d been offered a wallet diploma for my BA I probably would keep it tucked in a wallet or something. That’s kind of neat.
Never was exactly such a thing in AUS, going back as far as I’ve read. High school finished at year 11, when you sat for the state exam called the “Leaving Certificate”. From that, you got a transcript, not a diploma. The next year was Matriculation, which was a University Entrance Exam: again, you got a transcript, not a diploma. (later called Higher School Certificate, later called Victorian Certificate of Education).
In the 60’s, Martic also meant that you entered the civil service at a higher grade (“officer”) with more range for promotion.
You must be even older than me if you remember Matriculation
I guess the local equivalent would be your HSC/VCE/whatever results statement … and honestly, haven’t a clue what happened to mine. Even my University degree, I think I’d have to go back to the Uni for a new copy if, for whatever bizarre reason, I ever needed it again.
