Where should I go on a short, short notice vacation.

What about a cruise? There may be something leaving from nearby port that minimizes the travel costs, and if it just hits a few Caribbean countries and/or Puerto Rico, Key West, and the Virgin Islands, you probably don’t need a passport. Vacationstogo.com and Travelzoo.com both do a lot of last minute cruise deals, especially if they have unsold rooms on the ships (which they always do).

I’ll second New Orleans. After seeing it mentioned I can’t think of anything else.

Be sure to let us know what you pick. Some of us like to live vicariously.

You are picking the wrong guy.

Not necessarily. I used to live in New Orleans and the Virgin Islands are like a second home to me. Both of those are world class and that is why I recommended them. If you choose either of those, I can set you up with an identical twin set of transvestite strippers or a group of alcoholic beer drinking pigs (as in bacon, not men or the police). I won’t say which is where until you say where you are going.

You are pretty lucky to go on vacation soon. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the least popular travel time of the year and you can get some amazing deals. I would stick with the recommendations given but you should check out www.travelzoo.com for travel deals for some of the recommendations given by people in this thread.

You could come to Placerville, Ca. I’ll treat you to lunch at my deli.

We share the courtyard with a haunted hotel. And there is a hanging dummy on Main street. Whoo Hoo!
 Yeah, I’d probably choose Key West myself.

Hey Loach,
I owe everyone who replied to this thread What to do/see/eat in Asheville, NC? - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board a giant THANK YOU as well as an apology for not reporting on what a fantastic, wonderful time we had in Asheville, NC. Super quick, 2.5 hour flight from Hartford; gorgeous, relaxing 2 hour drive from Charlotte to Asheville, and nothing but excellent food, music, scenery, architecture, history, nature, and what-all else floats your boat, in a nice, convenient, clean, friendly package. Check it out.

We are leaning towards Puerto Rico or New Orleans right now. She brought up an issue last night which will modify things. Although its not a deal breaker we are looking more into places that don’t have connecting flights. Time is short enough, we would rather not blow more time travelling than we have to.

This is what I was going to recomend. Lovely city.

For those who are living vicariously through me I have an update.

We are going no where.

There is now some (ok a lot) of uncertainty with the future of my girlfriend’s job and it wouldn’t be wise to go on a vacation right now. We’ll probably take a free room one night in Atlantic City and play a bit and go to a good restaurant. Hopefully she will get one of the new positions she is applying for and we can have a nice vacation next year. Getting the passport renewed now.
