Where should I stop along the coast of Maine?

But, but, what about the signs for South of the Border that pop up every mile for 100+ miles, that’s EXCITING (until you actually get there and see what a dump it is).

Man, we LOVED those signs when we were kids. It really helped to keep us entertained on the way to the beach. That should say something about the drive. (Never been to SOTB, though.)

Don’t forget the places you can stop to buy Disney World tickets.

I purchased gas at South of the Border once, and took a picture of my Jeep parked between the big Pedro statue’s legs.

Also, I’d like to add that the stretch of I-95 running through my own state is horribly maintained. Route 1 may not be such a hot idea, either – for example, that would put you driving on Raleigh’s Capital Boulevard. (I’ve driven Route 1 in Maine though – it’s awesome!)

York Beach, OOB, Portland Headlight…
: ) Portland Headlight is one of my favorite places, bring a jacket and/or sweatshirt if you go, it gets chilly no matter the time of year!
