Actually, I mutated it into ‘neh’ for my own purposes. Pisses off my current roommate to no end (it’s unbecoming) :rolleyes: so I shall keep doing it just to get under her skin, I think. I am not a Jane Austen girl. If I was in a situation that demanded me to be phonectially more asute, I would not use it. But I’m not in said situation when I’m around her.

Thanks for all the replies. My opinion has softened now that I know it’s 1) used by Jewish grandmothers and 2) said on The Simpsons (I really need to watch that show more often). At least it comes from good stock, unlike, say, “Not” which took me a long time before I found out it came from SNL, which made me hate it even more.
If it’s good enough for E-Sabbath’s grandma and Lisa Simpson, I’ll quit bitching about it. (Please shoot me if I ever use it myself though)
