I’d like to start a thread where myself and others could kick around the idea of the proposed 2018 Mars mission. Which forum would be the most appropriate?

Sounds like a Great Debates topic to me.

There’s a thread in MPSIMS that’s going on right now, [A private mission to Mars?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=683744&highlight=2018+mars+mission)

I don’t want to give away the ending, but, heck, I’ll force myself. It won’t happen.
