Sierra City, CA–a tiny, tiny (250 people!) mining town in the Sierra Buttes. Actually, I wasn’t born _in_ the town, but in a log cabin along Highway 49. There were eight-foot snow drifts outside, and my dad delivered me himself. My brother _was_ born in town, two and a half years later, in the room above the bar/pizza parlor my dad owned. During Happy Hour. My dad delivered him, too, and my mom came down after the birth to have a glass of wine. I swear to God that I’m not making any of this up. ---
