Where would you draw line between simple emergency prepardness and absurd prepping?

There are generators that run on propane. It doesn’t go bad, at least.

Well. In retrospect, having been through 9/11, the 2003 Northeast Blackout, the 2007 financial crisis, Hurricane Sandy and now this Coronavirus crap, I wouldn’t mind having a house out of the way somewhere about an hour or so drive from New York with 1-3 months of supplies, generator, etc. Firearms aren’t really critical IMHO. I don’t hunt or really expect to hold off a siege of mutants or anything. But it would be nice to just have someplace to go and wait this crap out. Not “end of the world” or “fall of civilization”.

We lived through Katrina-which until this week was the worst disaster the US had suffered in generations. We evacuated. What I learned was that the best preparation one can have is a destination-and a credit card accepted by Walmart. Just about anything one needs can be purchased. And if that isn’t possible, postponing the crisis by a few weeks or a few months isn’t going to help much in the long run.

Having a place to go to is what is important. You really don’t want to be forced out with no place to go. In today’s case, that destination is home. Which is a good thing.

Preppers are like people who like rencon festivals. Fun but not actually useful.
