…If you could choose any place on this green earth to live, where would you be?

Don’t worry about money, practical stuff like housing and transportation, economy, job… those are all just pesky details.

I’m talking your fantasy here. Where would you be?

I’d choose be either in Victoria, Vancouver Island… or maybe someplace in New Zealand or Australia. Since I’ve never really been out of N America [YET, but i have a world trip in the works] it’s hard for me to know specifically all the beautiful places on this earth.

Really, with someone special at my side it would seem unimportant where we lived. But geography does help sometimes. 🙂

What are other people’s dream destinations?

Hmmm…if I had to stay in the US, I’d either go to the mountains of North Carolina, near Asheville, or out in Colorado.

If I went international, Scotland. Near Edinburgh. I _loved_ it there, and can’t wait to go visit again.

Of course, OfficeGirl is right. With someone special by me, I don’t care WHERE I end up.

of the top of my head…

Austin (I might move there, regardless. The weather is nicer than Houston, and it’s a much prettier city)

From everything I’ve heard, Canada (esp. Alberta) sounds really cool.

New Orleans.

Anywhere along the Rhine.

But you know something? I really do like it in Texas 🙂

I think Northern California, Napa Valley area would be nice.

or - South of France because it sounds so snooty.

Or Somewhere in Northern Italy, for the wine and skiing.

Somewhere in England, but not London. A nice little thatched roof cottage with a very english garden.

From my travelling experiences:

South Africa would be ideal in terms of the beautiful country and nature.

For experiencing a mixture of cultures: Singapore, New York but also… Amsterdam !

For historic and archeological sites: Greece, Turkey, Egypt.

And the other 100 or so counties I still want to visit…

I am going to cheat and choose living on a boat. That way I could visit many places. With the right person and the right books, I would be OK.

For about a half dozen years, I’ve been wanting to move to Seattle. I visited there in 94 and fell in love with the place. If I could live anywhere in the States, that’d be it.

I also have this obsession with living abroad. I’d want to live in a large, “important” city in Europe. Having been to London a few times, that’s #1 on my list, but the more I hear/read about cities like Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Brussels, the more I’d like to check them out, too.

I have a Prague obsession, based mostly on my visit there last year (doing research for a novel partially set there), but after my trip I decided I wouldn’t want to live there due to the horrible pollution. I’m sure London/Amsterdam/etc. are no better, but I think the mystery and specialness of Prague would be ruined if I walked those ancient streets everyday.

If I could own a business…a rare bookstore in N’Awlins (New Orleans) near the French Quarter. Saw one once and could totally see me doing tht for a living

If I did not have a business, Japan or the Canary Islands (they got a thousand surf spots down there)

Outside of the US:

-Costa Rica (if i could i would love to study there for a year)

Inside the US:

-Hawaii
-Florida Keys
-Monterey (oops! I actually do live there LOL).

Guanolad,

What do you mean, the South of France _OR_ the Mediteranean ? SoF is right on the Mediteranean Sea (largest sea in the world, incidently).

Montfort,

Did you now there’s a small town in Holland called Montfoort ? Also, regarding your cities mentioned: Copenhagen is beautiful, but slightly dull and a beer will cost you the equivalent of 6 bucks. Yes, really. Brussels and Amsterdam are on equal terms beauty-wise, although Amsterdam has the edge with the canals and all.

Prague is VERY poluted, London is rather poluted, Amsterdam and Brussels are not really poluted at all, since both town centers all virutally inaccessible by car. I mean, you could do it, but parking outside of the center and taking a streetcar downtown is much easier. Thus little fumes. Amsterdam’s better than Brussels though, in terms of ‘freshness’.

OK… those were my 2 European cents 🙂

The South of France doesn’t have to be the Mediterranean coast, and the Mediterranean has Greece, Italy, Africa etc. I was leaving my options open.

In France, there are apparently sweet, non-coastal places that are just divine. So I wanna experience that.

For you non-divers, Bonaire is a small (about 35 miles by 5 miles as I recall)island off the coast of Venezuela, near Aruba.

Diver, welcome to Holland 🙂

Bonaire is a (semi-former) Dutch colony, just like Aruba, Curacao, Suriname, St. Maarten, St. Eustachius, Saba…

We sure did a lot of good in the Golden Age (16th century)… The ancestors of every black man or woman in the America’s have either been shipped by a Dutch or Portuguese vessel.

You know, sometimes I can feel quite embarassed about my country, knowing all the shit we provided the world with troughout history… luckily we’re making up for it now, by being one of the most tolerant and open-minded countries in the world. Makes you wonder if that’s some sort of compensation… who knows.

Thank you very much. The Dutch influence is still very strong. The cultural mix is great and we enjoy the people a lot. Back again for two weeks next May. Can’t wait!!
