Where would you hide $10 million in cash/jewels

I think a lot depends on how long you needed to hide it. If it was a long time, I’d probably put the goods in an airtight plastic box, and bury it in the forest somewhere, well of the beaten path, and record the location with a GPS. I would then encode the location into a photo via steganography, and post the image on several photo hosting sites anonymously. That way, even if all my possessions are seized, I could eventually find my way back to the correct spot.

This is pretty much what I thought, minus the photograph thing. Just make damn sure I memorized the coordinates.

I don’t know…in the age of gamefaqs.com this might be a dangerous idea. Plus, after constructing all those dungeons, how much of the original $10 million are you gonna have left? Given the economy these days do you have any idea what the going rate for giant boss monsters is now? It’s horrendous.

How about casting them as gaming miniatures. I’ve seen them range from historic to science fiction to fantasy. Some of the pieces can be quite sizable, and it’s expected that you will paint them, which nicely hides the gold.

This site has an interesting selection.

Still the problem I mentioned a few posts later. 10 million in gold is going to weigh the better part of half a ton. That’s a whole lot of miniatures.

There’s a problem that I see with the proposals to convert the assets into something else, especially those thinking of gold, other precious metals, or anything of that nature:

Should prices change, that $10,000,000’s going to be a lot less than it used to be.

As recently as mid-2003, the price of gold was under $400 an ounce. If you buy now, and it returns to that level, you’ve lost about 60% of the money already

As for my hiding place, I’d just toss it in with the rest of the clutter I have. A few hundred thousand in each filing box, some in the desk drawers, some in the suitcases, money in my DVD boxes…

At the rate I could go, it may reach the point where even I have trouble finding it.
